I cannot decide if I want to go to the Ron Paul event my university Arab Student Union is hosting. It is spring recess, and I am disinclined to commute to campus for this event. However, I take issue with many of his positions and find them contrary to many Arab-American interests. It just bothers me that a cultural organization at my university feels that it can endorse a candidate without having a serious discussion with its constituents about whether that candidate is a viable candidate.
They ignored me when I asked why the organizers felt that an event for Ron Paul (furthermore, a doctors for Ron Paul event) was a meaningful expression of the mission of an Arab Student Union. However, this organization tends to situate their entire platform around divestment and Israel and pays zero attention to other pertinent Arab-American issues. They made no effort to have events or dialogues related to any of the Arab protests nor do they have many cultural events. So honestly I should not be surprised.
Should I attend? If so, I will probably get little if any time to speak or ask a question, so what criticism should I voice? Should I even take it seriously?
